What to Wear to Family Portraits by Shreveport Photographer Candace Chaney

Family photography in the Shreveport - Bossier City area is in full swing this fall season!  One of the most frequently asked questions I get is the age-old what to wear conundrum.  So here's three quick tips for those wardrobe decisions for your family portrait sessions:

1.  Be authentic. Wear something that's comfortable an
d feels true to who you are. In general, feeling good is the most important consideration when picking out your fits so think about your favorite styles and colors
first and go from there.  

2.  Coordinate.  Coordinating is better than matching! Showcasing
our diverse personalities within a family is a great thing but just make sure your colors and patterns coordinate well.  If someone is wearing a pattern or a floral print, pull from the colors in the print for the other family members
and keep patterns to a minimum.  Rich colors photograph well while true white can be difficult to photograph because of its reflective properties. Leave graphic t-shirts in the drawer- this is not their moment.  

3.  Don't overthink it!  If you need to ask for help, phone a friend with good fashion taste and an eye for color- bonus points if they know you and your style well.  What else are friends for?  

I'll be running around to Betty Virginia Park and Red River Wildlife Refuge and homes across the Shreveport - Bossier area for a couple more months before this busy season is over for family photography!  It's a busy for sure but it is well worth it- pretty soon I'll have Christmas cards by the dozen hanging in my home and I'll look at them and smile- proud of all my clients, full of love.  They'll have nailed it.
