What's the best time for newborn photography?
While there's no hard and fast rule for ideal conditions or the perfect window, it's best to keep two things in mind when thinking about when to schedule your newborn session.
1. Consider the ten to fourteen day post birth window
In general, it's a good idea to give yourself enough time to settle in to a rhythm at home - this time frame allows for that. It also allows for a little plumping up - the baby will lose some birth weight, then gain some back again and this time frame can be on the upswing of some of that chunking up of those adorable cheeks. This window is also in that honeymoon stage where baby sleeps a whole lot so it's nice to get a little wakey, a little sleepy. After the two weeks, it's a little more on the wakey side and it can be kind of hit and miss on the sleepy.
2. Don't overthink it
All that said, there is no perfect day, there is no hard and fast rule. If you want to do a three week or four week session, do it! All babies are different, all situations are different. Do what works for you. It's so important to ease into life with your newborn and give yourself grace. Do not let the timing of a session give you any stress. Schedule it when you and your baby are ready. I'm flexible.
